Cody Piper │ Johnnny - The True Story Of A Civil War Legend

In the edition of Angel Watchers I am featuring "Johnny - The True Story Of A Civil War Legend", starring Cody Piper.  It is not well known that during the American Civil War, over 10,000 Union soldiers were under the age of 18, and that many of them were younger than 12.  The Confederacy supposedly had many times that number of underage soldiers.  These brave boy-soldiers served mostly as drummer boys, but they also performed other tasks such as carrying secret messages across enemy lines, and also engaged in actual combat.  Cody Piper plays the part of "Johnny Joseph 'Lincoln' Clem", who joins the Union Army at the age of twelve.  He had a remarkable life during the Civil War and was praised and honored for his military service by high ranking officers, even by General Grant himself.  Johnny eventually retired on August 15, 1915 at the age of 64 as a Brigadier General.  On August 29, 1916 he was promoted to the rank of Major General which was the custom at that time for retirees.  He died on May 13, 1937 and is buried in the Arlington National Cemetery, located in Arlington, Virginia.  Johnny was the last Civil War veteran to serve in the U.S, Army.  Cody Piper does a remarkable job as "Johnny".  He is very likable and brings a lot of charm and grace to a movie that has such a grim subject matter.  Safe journeys to all the fans of Angel Watchers, wherever you may be.
